Why Modernize?

  • Better Performance
  • Greater Flexibility
  • More Informed Decisions
  • Less Risk of Downtime

"Justifying the risk and expense of control system upgrades can be a challenge. However, the truth is that legacy systems operate in isolation, and outdated equipment is costly to run. Once you understand the threat of obsolescence, validating upgrades is easier."

Critical Upgrades You Should Plan

PLC:
  • PLC-5 processors and I/O (1785 and 1771)
  • After more than 30 years of life, the Allen-Bradley® PLC-5® control platform from Rockwell Automation was discontinued in 2017 and is no longer available for sale.

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Rockwell has officially classified all 4, 40, and 40P PowerFlex drives as end-of-life as of June 30, 2025. This means these drives will no longer be serviced or sold after the listed date.
  • 1336, 1333, 160, PF40, PF400, PF70

SLC-500 Family Processors and I/O (1747 and 1746)
  • With the announced discontinued date of March 31, 2024, for all of the remaining Rockwell Automation SLCâ„¢ 500 controllers, we will see the end of an era for a Small Logic Controller first released in 1991.

MicroLogix controllers
  • After 20 years and over 2 million units placed in critical service, the MicroLogix 1100 (and also the 1200) have been discontinued and are no longer available.

HMI Terminals
  • PanelView Operator Terminals
  • PV550, PV600

Start by Considering this:

  • Does your control system meet your current and future production demands?
  • Is it capable of complying with the latest safety and security standards?
  • Do your executives understand the risk of using aging technology?
  • Do you need help determining your migration priorities?

If you answer NO to any of these, we can help!

Next, Schedule a FREE First-Step Assessment:

A Schaedler Yesco specialist will meet with you to do a cursory overview of your facility to help determine where you are most at risk. We can recommend what your focus should be and what you can do to take the next steps in protecting your company.

Then, invest in an Automation Assessment:

Similar to our First-Step Assessment, the next step digs deeper to identify the biggest obsolescence risks in your installed base.  Our specialists will conduct a lifecycle analysis of your equipment and spare parts inventory. A thorough review of this information will help you prioritize your modernization needs and goals. We can help you shave weeks or even months off the process compared to doing it internally.

When you know the status of spare parts and discontinued equipment, you can create a corporate-risk profile highlighting the highest risk for downtime at each site.

  • Identifying your most critical assets
  • Reducing obsolescence risks
  • Managing corporate storeroom and spare parts initiatives
  • Confirming all assets have up-to-date bills of material

What you can expect when you invest in an full Automation Assessment:

  • Obtain a panel count from you and your team to create the proposal
  • Present a proposal and consult with you on the scope of service
  • Conduct an on-site data collection performed by a Schaedler Yesco trained technician while accompanied by a member of your engineering or maintenance staff
  • Process data using customized software to determine plant lifecycle risks and overall maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) inventory status
  • Deliver the analysis report and discuss solutions to help you improve plant performance
